When a day where the market really got pummeled based on fears of a new escalation in the trade war with China probably came back when some coolness prevailed Kadesh so what kinds of stocks held up throughout the session how about the stocks of a safe recession resistant companies with no business in the People's Republic take. Young brands the parent of KFC Taco Bell and Pizza which spun. Off its Chinese division as a separate company a little over two years ago now I've been a gigantic fan of the story and young just keeps delivering and delivery that's one of the reasons why the stock was barely down even when. The averages were through Louis ed today and then came back it actually finished up on more than 80 cents on. Top of that yesterday management. Told a very compelling story at their analyst meeting and we know business is good because the last quarter was excellent the stock is still up twelve percent for the year and I think it could have more upside now yes sir we got a chance to sit down with Greg creme one of my favorite guys he's the CEO of YUM. Take a look Greg why is it that when I look at you I'm seeing red relevant easy and distinct that's what characterizes great brands and our job is to. Make all three of our global iconic brands red how do we make them more relevant how do we make them easier and how do we make it more well tell me big make this which i think is very relevant yeah bring it. Along to me okay well I think the most. Distinctive brand is probably KFC yes with the new ad campaign W all know. You know kernels but it's red and white stripes finger lickin good this is an incredibly distinct brand I think we've made Pizza Hut much more relevant $5.00 line up $7.99 you know and delivery I think all of those things are making this brand a lot more relevant and Taco Bell is probably the epitome of relevance. And distinctiveness and cool and cool and very socially cool very yes Hwang's yeah I mean used to be mention it now I want people to understand something about. This man this has been one of the great stocks I mean they're doing everything right afford and 61 million shares now down to 325 litres in five years us chart that is one of the finest ever if you call up his debt which is what all. These documents are though what do you see you see proud but dissatisfied talk to us cuz you spent a huge amount of time. Your analyst maybe talk about what you really bill belcheck from the new opinion what you did wrong alright look I think it's about there's a lot to be proud off right through. Global iconic brands we have incredible scale we had this global diversity we're proud of the brands mm-hmm we're dissatisfied because we can get more growth I think we're dissatisfied because not every brand is purely great at read/write. And you can make some improvements so I think you've got to be honest as a CEO you've got to be what is it define reality. And offer hope okay and we still think that the best days of young are ahead of it okay we know you what did fall behind in digital to dominoes but you're making a quick catch up oh. Yeah with a quick order purchase that we announced yesterday we now own that ecommerce engine it's going to drive between two and a half and three billion dollars worth of work we've bought it in-house we've got 75 incredibly talented people now joining yum we think we can unleash. That power and we can make look I think that it's fair to say the pizza is as easy to. Access as our competitors we just got to make it more testing how many kiosks versus some of the big names will be no of kiosks well we're all in kiosks at. All to talk about so by the end of. Next year Taco Bell in the US will. Every restaurant have kiosks we're gonna put 5,000 kiosks into a KFC so you'll see that appearing and then the big thing is delivery in the last 12 months we added 10,000 stores that two-hour delivery to delivery numbers quick I'm just confused because we've been huge backers of growth ever since it came. Public right this new acquisition sounds like it's an aesthetical to GrubHub no no no grub was all about delivery the quick quick order was all about a ecommerce planets technology we bought technology okay that's important because it was there were something we're saying they're walking away from grubs no. They're like completely Lavagirl. Or probably like hey we think it's right side by the grub hub and it's great for for Yaman our brands now there are a lot of people. Whose when I mention y'all. Miss it yet not that big you're the. World's largest restaurant company why is it that people don't think of you as that well I think. Because the company name by the brand names are different right so we have 46,000 global restaurants we're opening seven restaurants. A day around the world no one has that footprint and no one is opening that number of restaurants but you know I was surprised because you put out numbers 2900 restaurant. But it's 1,700 Nats ready pruning well no the 1209 says to really clean up the estate so we can relocate we can change so but 1,700 is a high watermark we've traditionally done about 1,200 new units a year now we're doing 1700 4 percent growth just through net new units I thought was interesting is overseas you can't just. I can't just call you sell one a franchise I mean there are really high standards never really big companies are involved yeah we've got 2,000 franchisees globally some very big names and you're right. We look for 3 we look for the what we call the three C's capability commitment and. Capital that's what we want from great franchisees now the the I know I've because i one time they've been trying to buy these and they don't want a guy with one so I open my own restaurant right but I really want to own one of yours yeah you're making big money and well there's no. One owner just because when the NFL comes on all right look we're all addicted to the NFL true and if they'll. Grab me can't your ads I mean I can sing the Colonel's song and now I know he's a. Person yeah well sport in NFL in particular but all sport and live sport is great for all three of our brands obviously being the NFL sponsor. With pizza is fantastic right but that doesn't mean that KFC and Taco Bell don't take advantage of all life. Sport as well okay what do you do with Millennials to say wait a second this has so many more ingredients than Chipotle you know we've been taught the job we want to have five ingredients is oh this is fried what we tell the Millennials. Who are always looking their best and feel their best and making me set the keys we listen respond to the voice of customer they want. You know so we've got rid. Of artificial colors artificial flavors trans fats and sodium but the other thing Jim is our brands got to be what a brand stands for and you can't be everything to everybody if you think about it what's the biggest selling item in fast food hamburgers right now three brands don't sell hamburgers because that's. Not the business we're in we're in the business only the best pieces the best chicken and the best Mexican in the world did you ever think that the young the one I thought was an income play would be faster growing then the young China did. You ever think. That in a million years I probably didn't but you know what I'm excited about is I think when young China was a part of us the rest of the business just sat there in or and. Watch young Chinese we were didn't care I. Think women spinning it off really made the rest of us dig deep and run our business with with more growth aspirations and we've delivered on his. Aspirations which is fantastic all right we did have the privilege of interviewing a terrific guy who came. In me YUM I think he was the first guy called the bloomin audio call who did go to Chipotle Brian deal he's a terrific guy but you have a deep bench not worried no not we had four of the five brand presenters today at investor day for them did not present two years ago so we've. Got this incredible bench and I think everyone today might I was so proud of my team today and that people are saying yeah I didn't see those people in the past so the depth of bench and yum is unprecedented well you've just got a great company you know for you I've been. Following you all the time and from your predecessor and it's just a great company and a great stock that's great Creed see you of young brands look I've got like 1/8 of this but it's accessible you must read this before you buy the stock but you should buy the stock man bunnies back into the brain booyah.
